The Pakistani Community in Texas is mostly concentrated in Houston (in the three County areas consisting of Harris, Spring and Fort Bent counties) Austin and Dallas. There are smaller concentrations in Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma and New Mexico. The estimated number of the community in the jurisdiction of the Houston Consulate is over 100,000.
The Pakistani community mainly consists of professionals in the fields of medicine and computer software/ hardware engineering. In addition many entrepreneurs of Pakistani origin own large businesses in different fields like information technology, textiles, manufacturing, and real estate etc. Businesses of smaller scale owned by Pakistanis are also plentiful in business like travel agencies, motels and restaurants, convenience stores and gas stations.
The Pakistani community is well organized into a number of Associations which are both socially and politically active. The Pakistani Associations active in the area under the Consulate’s jurisdiction include Pakistan-American Association of Greater Houston (PAGH), Pakistan American Council of Texas (PACT), Pakistan Chambers of Commerce- USA (PCC-USA), Pakistan Association of Greater Austin (PAGA), Pakistan Society of North Texas (PSNT), Association of Pakistani Physicians of North American (APPNA)
