| Prime Minsiter's Special Fund for Victims of Terrorism |
The Government of Pakistan has decided to establish a Fund titled “Prime Minister’s Special Fund for Victims of Terrorism” for providing relief to the internally displaced persons in the wake of current conflict in Dir, Swat, Bajaur and Waziristan Agency of NWFP and FATA. The fund would be used to mobilize resources and render helping hand in the relief efforts to the affected people.
The Fund has been established with an initial contribution of Rs. 200 million by the Prime Minister. Members of the cabinet have also announced to contribute their one month salary to the fund for victims of terrorism in Swat. All proceeds on account and payment into the aforesaid Fund will be received at all branches of State Bank of Pakistan, All Treasuries and Branches of National Bank of Pakistan, all other Scheduled Banks and Embassies/Consulates of Pakistan.
We deeply appreciate the national spirit and sense of sacrifice exhibited by the Pakistani community in the United States, when the appeal was made to send donations for the unfortunate victims of earthquake in Kashmir and NWFP in 2005. As a result of efforts of the community, millions of dollars were donated to the President’s Relief Fund and to non-government organizations that were engaged in relief work in Kashmir. We expect demonstration of same spirit form our community in its response to the appeal made by the Prime Minister.
All community members are, therefore, requested to generously contribute to this fund to alleviate the sufferings of victims of terrorism in Pakistan. The contribution checks in this regard may be sent to the Consulate of Pakistan with recipient clearly mentioned as “Prime Minister’s Relief Fund”.
